I've tried a few times to get that game to work on my PC, and haven't been able to. My hardware isn't horrible either. I can run GTA V at 1920x1080/75Hz on mostly High settings. But for some reason with GTA IV, even when I turn the settings all the way down, I get really bad stuttering. I had it working at one point with my old graphics card, and I do remember it took some tinkering, but I can't remember exactly what I did. Quoting Rockstar: "...Very High shadows require a late model video card with 1.5 - 2 Gigs of VRAM to work as intended. High Shadow Quality is the rough equivalent to Very High in the old solution."Try and turn the shadows down, see if that helps. One thing that i know makes the game stutter is the Clip Capture setting, set it to off. Hope it helps. Same happen to me , when my GTX 670 died. With GTX 980 the game feel bad, even with forced nomemory restriction, and other command. It feel the game accept bad the hardware with 4 go Vram.

I have also 4gb of RAM in my 270x, yesterday i tried lowering both shadow settings to low/normal voila, smooth as silk for a race then got random bad stutters, it could be the sliders too high.... Still need to do further tests, changing in game seems to bug the video memory even more we will see.
What is the graphic setting that becomes useless when you use 2k or 4k? is it the anisotropic filter or the AA?

hmm.. no, it's actually the oldschool disc version.. graphics settings work fine too. The only problem is with GamesForWindowsLive.. It logs in, but only in "(offline)" mode, so i can't access multiplayer. I think it is a network problem. The network settings of gfwl show that it can't find a internet IP or UPnP.. idk EDIT: ok, nevermind.. i did a reset of the windows firewall and now i can log in again.. xD I haven't been able to log in to socialclub when starting gta iv for the last 3 or 4 month, and must select offline to mode to play at all. So no multiplayer. I tried everything i could think off, reinstalled the games, unistalled and reinstalled gfwl, redeemed activation code and reapplied. And its always "socialclub login failed - please try again" And now i've tried resetting my firewall, but it didn't fix the problem. I've read on the steamforums, that alot of other players have the exact same problem, and that it started becoming a huge problem when they released some updates for win 7, 8, and 10, around the time of the release of win 10. And that it is because SecuriROMs rootkit-like DRM-software, has been disabled with these updates.. But I really don't hope that is true, I really miss racing with you guys, but I can't play gta v, it makes me motionsick to play Anyways.. HAPPY NEWYEAR !!

I don´t know, if this helps, but the Rockstar Social Club is not needed for GTA IV (you only need GFWL). To turn off the login to the RSC, you have to delete or rename the file "paul.dll": 1drv.ms/1PASXbW

I't didn't work. It skipped the RSC logon screen and the game started, but trying to enter multiplayer with the phone, it says I need to be logged in to Socialclub to play multiplayer, just like it does when I enter offline mode regularly (like I usually have to, to get the game running in anyway) I'm still clueless

I renamed paul.dll to mike.dll a while back, when I was having problems and it worked.. I hope you get it figured out.

Turning on vsync (and running it in fullscreen, of course) solves the similar problem for me. It was kind of a strange stuttering, as if FPS itself is fine, but game physics reads input / calculates movement only a few times per second. This GWfL thing works horribly, though

Just to push the upcoming GTA4-Event a bit: there is a new video of the youtuber CrowbCat. He compared the gameplay of GTA4 and GTA5 and shows the (little) differences.
He has called his video "GTA IV is better than GTA V" and you can find it here:
Look and judge yourself. And make the experience in the upcoming event. I can already smell it, so how would be February 20th?

Hello Team!
Not a lot about the problem with the entrance to socialclub(gta iv). (Not steam version). Periodically had problems with login in social club. Try again, and so on. A week passed, until access was again obtained. And after some time it again repeated. Ryanm518 answered here, need to rename the file paul.dll. It is possible that this method is suitable for the steam version of the game. I tried this a long time ago,and my version of it didn't work. The output helped me to find montelemon(SideriticChaff4). He gave me a new file"LaunchGTAIV",which, I think, remembers the previous standard input in socialclub. And after that the login window does not appear. Start the game with access to multiplayer. But in the first place for this method, need one standard input. Otherwise,a new file"LaunchGTAIV",there not will be information from standard input. This method is necessary in order to avoid socialclub authorization login in the future!
About poor performance in GTA4,for a new modern PC.
Maybe disable the additional elements of texture filtering on the GPU and not in the game.In the control panel of the GPU. I have an old PC,but I don't know how to do with this situation on the new hardware. In any case,if you have the desire again to play GTA IV,you need to try different options.
Good luck guys! I hope the decision in your case will be found!
