GTA Online, the multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto V, has been a big hit for Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two. It is consistently cited as a top-performer during the company's earnings reports, and it's believed to have brought in more than $500 million from its microtransactions. But don't expect Rockstar to support it forever.

You can find the article here. Isn't really a surprise the game won't be there forever, also you can't expect them to bring out new content for it indefinetly. But what I find alarming is the "resting the franchise" and "creating demand" part. Sounds like they could take it down at some point before GTA 6 so people care more about that title. On the other hand GTA 4 online is still around. So I guess they'd rather stop updates.

I also don't mind GTA Online being more of a side project as it goes on, but R* really should do more with the feedback they are getting. I once heared that it is likely that they will take it more into consideration when it comes to designing say GTA6 Online, but that still leaves us with the problems ongoing for years.
Hopefully they change their approach on these things for the next title, otherwise they need to nail everything first try, because it ain't gonna get much better than that.

I'm realy hope, Rockstar is actual working on a Story DLC, butt month after month the chances goes to zero. Take2 announced some Titles on E3 and we know Rockstar is working on some Titles. They do alot for the Multiplayer Part, more than everybody expected. They did a great job for their first very big Multiplayer-Title. Time for a Story DLC. Damn Shark Cards.

I'd also love to see a big expansion especially since I recently replayed the singleplayer (forgot how great the missions are). But I'd not expect R* to make a map expansion (looks to Ballad of Gay Tony and the Lost) although Online really needs it imo.
Initially I even thought that GTA Online would be expanded with GTA 6 as the Online mode seems quite disconnected from GTA 5 (as it isn't GTA 5 Online for example), but with all the problems it has it may be better they just craft antoher one.
